Breadth, rotation, fear and greed — computed from raw price and volume across every exchange we track. Every number here is reproducible from the public API; nothing is survey-based or black-box.
Two indexes, one chart. Ours is a 0–100 composite of breadth above the 200-day average, the altseason gauge, net new highs and inverted volatility — every input technical, published, and queryable. The classic index (alternative.me) blends sentiment surveys and social signals. Where they diverge, sentiment and market internals disagree.
The share of liquid currencies trading above their own 200-day moving average. Rallies with falling breadth are narrower than they look; washouts under 10% have marked capitulation zones.
The percentage of the top 100 currencies outperforming Bitcoin over the trailing 90 days. Above 50% and holding: rotation into alts is real. Below: most alts lose to simply holding BTC.
Where traded volume actually is. Volume running home to BTC is defensive; a swelling long tail means speculation is hot.
All gauges derive from one dataset: OHLCV candles collected from every exchange coinray tracks, aggregated to one USD series per currency (median across exchanges, liquidity-filtered). Breadth counts currencies against their own 200-day average. The altseason gauge compares 90-day returns of the top 100 currencies against Bitcoin. The fear & greed index blends breadth (35%), altseason (25%), net new 30-day highs (25%) and inverted market volatility (15%).
Every series on this page is available over the API, history included.
